A guardian angel is your birth right

October 26, 2006

The concept of a guardian angel for each and every individual in the world is a beautiful concept. Each and every child has protective parents at the time of birth. Just extend this concept, of a guardian in the spiritual world ,and you have the guardian angel.

In India they have the concept of a Family God or a deity which protects that family. There are mantras which possess protective powers. The Mrityunjaya Mantra is supposed to protect one against accidents.

It is a matter of faith as well as an energy around you. You can also call it an awareness. If you are constantly alert ,chances are that accidents will not happen to you.

So your guardian angel is also awareness. There are other qualities which you must develop to have the guardian angel on your side. Virtue is a big plus point. Truth prevails and acts as a protective shield. The important thing is also belief. If you sincerely believe in the guardian angel and simultaneously believe in yourself, you will make the right choices and these choices will be the work of the guardian angel within you.

There is a guardian angel for each and every one.

Why has no research work been done on guardian angels?

Life is a trick I’m learning

October 26, 2006

“To be in the world and to be out of the world.
To be a part of the whole, and to be out of the whole.
To enjoy all the pleasures of this world, and to be indifferent to them when I feel like it.
To take interest in humans, and to forget them all when I go within.
To discover my Self,to discover my God.
These are all the tricks I’m learning .”

Cinema as a meditation device

October 22, 2006

One of the most common escape from boredom devices in the world is cinema. Most cinema has nothing to do with reality and is purely escapist by nature. This is true of 90 % of commercial cinema. But there is that other 10% (this could vary from country to country) and this  10% sometimes takes you onto another level totally. This can be used as an escape route (meditation device) to go within .This cinema as  meditation technique uses an emotional frame of mind, which you may be in,after seeing an intensely moving film made by a great director. You don’t wish to talk to anybody immediately after the movie  and you want to “digest” the movie and internalize the experience you have just gone through. This is the best time to meditate.Find a quiet place, carry over the mood you are in and meditate on the movie.Slowly ,let the movie settle down and now be left with just the mood.Use the mood to get deeper inside you .

Do your own variations. The idea is to use what the great film makers do to move you when you are inside movie theatres ,but you use those moods outside, creatively and personally , to grow spiritually inside.

Silence is private

“In the privacy of your mind,
Explore the world of silence.
In the privacy of silence
Explore the world of no-mind.”

Less Is more

October 17, 2006

It is important to focus on a few qualities rather than go for lots of them and not possess any.

A vitamin tablet taken daily will help you more than if you take  twenty tablets all  in one day….

Doing one meditation properly is better than trying all different meditations.

The human habit of collecting more is inherent in our genes.Surfing the net and bookmarking sites is the most current example I can give to prove what I say.You would rather have a thousand sites bookmarked for future use which will never be used than to go and study one site in detail and get the maximum benefit.

Learn to focus on one instead of multitasking all the time.

Learn to realize that less is ultimately more.

What is your spiritual level?

October 16, 2006

Just as I.Q. levels are measured, why not measure Spiritual Quotient levels also?To start off you could have these five levels.

1-10 Very low level of spirituality.Criminals with record could belong to this category.Zero levels of spirituality are an impossibility as you would always have some element of humanity in you,and with a miracle, there is always a chance for transformation.

10-50 I think most of mankind would belong to this category.Simple god fearing folks, whose life consists in making two ends meet. They have no time for God and definitely no time for meditation and the like. They may be going to Churches or their holy places but only mechanically.

50-100 This may be the second biggest group. These people have been exposed to some form of spirituality, find regular comfort in the Holy books,in prayers but have never gone really deep into spirituality.

100-150 These are the spiritual seekers. They would go out of their way to try and discover their spirituality,go in for prayers or meditations seriously, restless people ,looking for God or the purpose of their existence…New Age literature and different books and gurus and new experiences would interest them.

Above 150- People who have achieved a high level of spirituality….in constant search….Priests,Fathers,Monks,of the various religious orders, would all belong in this category.Long hours of meditations or prayers would be common for them.Their whole purpose in life is to look for some form of enlightenment.

These categories are all very arbitrary and personal. They are my concoctions-like a cocktail drink made for the first time. They need to be refined and polished. But a starting point is always neccessary. The starting point is to find out ” What is my S.Q.level?And then how can I improve this level?”

Understanding “emptiness”

October 14, 2006

The meaning of emptiness as used in Buddhist terminology is grossly misunderstood, not without reason.Empty connotes meaningless as in “my life is so empty”.Empty also connotes hollow as in “Your words  sound so empty”.

But emptiness in Buddhist terminology means something else.It is more of absence of junk objects, junk thoughts, junk emotions-like when a room is empty (of objects) then it is full of space. If your mind is empty of thoughts,it is full of stillness.

To look at emptiness with this perspective will give a whole new dimension to your perception of meditation.Emptiness will no more be cold if you associate it with stillness, vast space and beauty, like the Universe.

Choices-The problem of plenty

October 7, 2006

This problem of plenty is not about money….unfortunately.

It is about choices.

Too many choices bombard all of us daily…..What to read in the paper….what to see on t.v….what to spend our limited time and money on…what classes to send our children to…art or dance….or theatre…or music????

Just sit down and think of how many choices you have to make daily that will determine the course of future events for you, your spouse, your children, your friends….So many of these choices are made so casually…..so arbitrarily

Choice is everything and the problem of plenty can only be solved by making the right choices.Without being rushed into it.By giving all the choices proper thought. And by meditating on the choices.

Meditation is not only spiritual. It can also be practical, real worldly. If you can meditate spiritually then meditating on making choices will be effortless.
